Instructions:  For 3 to 8 players
Ages 6 and up

Contents:
75 Doodle Cards, 25 Word Cards, Score Pod, Doodle Pads, Doodle Pencils, Shape Sheet

Object:
To have the most points at the end of the game.

Set Up:
Each player takes some paper and a pencil (four are provided). Separate the Doodle (picture) cards from the Word cards. Shuffle each deck separately. Do not look at any of the cards. Choose one player to keep score. Chose any player to be the first Instructor. All other players are Doodlers for the first round.

Instructing & Doodling
The Instructor takes the top card from the Doodle deck and tries to describe as best they can the object on the card using only "technical" terms (described later). The more Doodlers that can identify the object from the description, the more points the Instructor will get!

The Doodlers follow the directions of the Instructor, trying to recreate the object on their Doodle Sheet. No one can look at another's drawing. Once the Instructor announces the description is complete, each Doodler secretly writes down what they think the object on their sheet is.
The Instructor's card is now revealed as well as all the Doodlers' drawings. Points are scored as described below.

Doodle Cards
Each correct identification is worth one point to the Instructor. Each correct Doodler gets one point. So, if 3 Doodlers guess correctly, they each get one point and the Instructor gets 3 points.

Starting a New Round
In this case, after one round is over, the player to the left becomes the Instructor and a new round starts. When there are 3 to 5 players, each player is the Instructor twice. With 6 to 8 players, each player is the Instructor once.

Describing in Technical Terms:
You may describe objects using only abstract words and phrases. You may not refer to "real world" objects. For example, "draw an oval in the center of your pad" is okay; "draw an egg in the center of your pad " is not. "Make a triangle pointing down, leaving off the top horizontal line" is okay; "Make a V" is not. Use the Shape Sheet provided to help you with your descriptions.

But note: It is up to the players to decide how strict they want the limits to be on this rule. Remember the overall objective is to have fun!

Options
  • Each player may elect to exchange a card for a different card once per game. The discard is placed at the bottom of the deck
  • Older players may want to use word cards when its their turn to be the Instructor.
Special Rules & Notes
The Doodiers cannot ask questions and the Instructor cannot ask for feedback from the Doodlers. Groans, sighs and laughter, however, are okay!

Any Doodler caught asking questions during the Instructor's description or any Instructor asking for feedback, loses one point.

If a Doodler announces the name of the object before the Instructor reveals the card, play stops. The Doodler loses one point while all other Doodlers gain a point per Doodler, except the penalized Doodler.

If the Instructor uses any improper description, they lose two points and play stops with no one gaining points. Play passes to the left.

Winning the Game
Add up all the players' points and the player with the most points wins and earns the title of "Great Doodler".
